Brown’s Bytes – iOS11: How’s it Looking?

22nd September 2017

Following on from the warnings about the changes coming with iOS11, I thought it would be good to take stock as the user base grows (whether you want it to or not).

Firstly, I noted (a bit smugly if I’m honest!) that something I’d mentioned here back in April was suddenly one of the most read stories on the BBC news site this week:

Reading the comments section on the BBC story, it did seem that it was just an excuse to bash Apple for something relating to the latest releases. Apple have been warning users about it for over 6 months! On the Enterprise side, customers seem to have spotted any issues and changed/patched before iOS11 came out….so far anyway.

Secondly, it seems that backwards compatibility is generally looking pretty good so far. There are niggles, but overall, it’s been a quiet release so far in this regard.

However, there is one major item we’re tracking that we’d flag – in particular to Exchange 2016 and Office 365 users:

It seems the native email client is having some issues with certain back end email platforms. If you’re using one of these then you may be tracking issues here until the inevitable 11.0.1 hits shortly.

So, in summary, so far it’s looking Ok. More will inevitably come out of the woodwork as more users install the update.

We’ll keep you posted!
